Now is the time of year when temperature drops and houses start to dry out. A decrease in the relative humidity in your home or business can translate into board shrinkage causing spaces to appear between floor boards. This is entirely normal and is caused by a drop in moisture content of the wood. The small vesicles in the wood that absorb and release moisture are now releasing some of the moisture into the drier atmosphere. It may be necessary to have a humidifier placed in a room or adjust the humidifier installed on your HVAC system.
